The Smithville political landscape has been disrupted by a blogger from Gladstone, Missouri, who seems to be orchestrating a coordinated attack against local candidates, Alderwoman candidate Kelly Kobylski, Clay County Commissioner Jason Withington, and Smithville Mayor Damien Boley. Numerous articles on the blog, said to be authored by a certain Bruce McCuiston, were published containing allegations of tax evasion and fraud, providing supporting information about Kobylski and Boley. This caused local politicos to speculate on who the blog's sources are, with some even saying that the blog is a malevolent A.I. from the future intent on taking down corrupt politicos, Terminator-style. No, Seriously, LOL
After conducting further investigation and gathering information from various paranoid administrators of the popular “Smithville Uncensored” Facebook group, it was discovered that they think the article is connected to a former Clay County Commissioner candidate Josiah Bechthold. Through the efforts of internet sleuths, they claimed a phone number used by the blogger was traced back to Bechthold. It was unknown how he may be connected to the Gladstone blogger. However, Clay County Commissioner Jason Withington, has his own conspiracy-minded theory. He has been delving into the possible reasons, claiming Bechthold is collaborating with Bunch and the Gladstone blogger to take himself and the Smithville candidates down as revenge for losing to Jason. Bechthold lost the Commissioner election to Withington in 2022. It is worth noting that Withington recently endorsed Bunch’s opponent in the Smithville Ward 1 Alderman race. However, we are able to provide a comment from Bechthold, who stated that he no longer lives in Missouri and moved to Illinois in August of 2023. He stated that Bruce McCuiston is a relative of his but denied Withington's claims, saying he is too busy to be involved in local Clay County politics from a state away. One might think that that is where the story ends, just another frenzied delusion of Withington and his supporters,
