SMITHVILLE — What began as a routine traffic stop exploded into a suburban demolition derby Saturday night when a Pleasant Hill woman allegedly unleashed chaos on the quiet streets of Smithville.
Police say 22-year-old Arwen Hook-Henry was pulled over on Diamond Lane for something as simple as improper registration. But instead of a ticket, officers got a reckless thrill ride straight out of a Fast & Furious sequel.
According to authorities, Hook-Henry jammed the accelerator, whipped into a cul-de-sac, and came within a breath of smashing into an officer and a patrol car—a move so dangerous it left seasoned cops shaken.
What followed was pure mayhem: the fleeing car blasted through a privacy fence, tore across a backyard, shattered another fence, and vanished into the night, leaving splintered wood and stunned neighbors in its wake.
Officers scrambled to give chase but quickly lost sight. Minutes later, with the help of Clay County deputies, the mangled getaway ended when the suspect’s vehicle was discovered ditched at a convenience store. A frantic search of the area ended inside a nearby business, where Hook-Henry and a passenger were found hiding—their suburban rampage over at last.
The Clay County Prosecutor wasted no time slapping Hook-Henry with a charge of Aggravated Fleeing under Missouri’s tough “Valentine’s Law”, which cracks down on drivers who put lives on the line. Bond? A cool $75,000. And investigators warn: more charges could be on the horizon.
One thing’s clear: Smithville won’t forget the night a quiet cul-de-sac became a danger zone.
