Drivers Report Men Jumping Into Traffic on Highway 169
Kansas City, Mo. — A local driver is warning others after a disturbing encounter on U.S. Highway 169 southbound near Barry Road on Sunday.
According to the report, a man was seen crouching on the shoulder before suddenly jumping into traffic. The driver, who managed to avoid hitting him, said two other men were also nearby—one of them walking down the middle of the highway.
“I was just past Barry Road when one of them leapt in front of my car,” the driver’s spouse shared in an online post. “Thankfully, my husband was able to react in time and didn’t hit him.”
While the motivation for the incident is unclear, some residents have raised concerns that this could be part of a troubling trend. In Independence, drivers have reported people intentionally jumping in front of vehicles in an apparent attempt to cause accidents and seek financial payouts.
No official reports have yet confirmed whether the men on Highway 169 were attempting something similar. However, the close call has left area drivers uneasy.
Kansas City police have not issued a statement regarding the incident, but motorists are urged to remain alert and report suspicious activity to authorities.
“This could have been tragic for both the driver and the people involved,” the warning continued. “I just hope it doesn’t become a regular occurrence here.”
