It is a sad fact, but shooting has become more common. Whereas it was unheard of just 5 years ago, Gladstone is now experiencing one to two murders every year. Gladstone witnessed its first murder this year early Sunday morning as a verbal dispute turned deadly in the Northland area. Samuel Aro, 47, succumbed to gunshot wounds after an altercation escalated into gunfire around 2:30 a.m. at the 7800 block of North Oak Trafficway. Officers responded swiftly to find bystanders attempting to administer lifesaving measures to Aro. Despite their efforts, Aro was pronounced dead at a local hospital at approximately 7 a.m. The circumstances leading to the shooting point to a heated argument between Aro and another unidentified man, who fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Officer Gonzalez indicated that the altercation quickly escalated into violence, resulting in Aro’s tragic death.
