Inconsistent Trash Pickup in Gladstone

Gladstone Residents Frustrated with Inconsistent Trash Pickup

GLADSTONE, Mo. — Some Gladstone residents say the city’s trash service is becoming increasingly unpredictable, leaving families struggling to manage waste and sanitation issues.

One resident, whose household of eight regularly produces more garbage than a single bin can hold, says the trash collectors are inconsistent about picking up the two extra bags that are supposed to be allowed each week.

“One week they’ll take the extra bags, the next week they leave them sitting there,” the resident said. “When that happens, we’re left with trash that’s two weeks old, and that means maggots if you don’t stay on top of it.”

To prevent health concerns, the resident has resorted to cleaning and sanitizing the bin weekly after collection. Still, the unpredictability makes waste management a constant headache.

Adding to the frustration, some residents report that trash bins are not returned to the curb or yard after pickup. Instead, they are sometimes tossed into the street.

With large families producing more waste than the standard bin can hold, residents say the city’s service must be consistent with its own rules.

“Families like ours rely on those extra bag pickups. When the policy isn’t followed, we’re the ones left dealing with the mess,” the resident added.
