Mid-Continent Public Library's North Oak Branch: A Tremendous Transformation!

Folks, let me tell you about a tremendous event happening at the Mid-Continent Public Library - the grand reopening of the North Oak Branch at 8700 N. Oak Trafficway in Kansas City. It's going to be fantastic, believe me! Starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, November 17, we're going to have library leaders, local officials, speeches - the best speeches - and a "book opening" ceremony. And for all attendees and visitors from Friday to Sunday, November 17 to 19, you get $10 fine forgiveness tokens. That's a deal!

Sherry Bridges, the branch manager, says, “We're absolutely thrilled - and you know, I love thrills - to celebrate our new chapter here at the North Oak Branch! It's been a tremendous journey, and we're tremendously grateful to our fantastic customers. Tremendous patience, tremendous welcome. Our hope is that this revamped space is tremendous and serves our community tremendously for years to come.”

After almost two years of winning - because we like to win - the revitalized branch opened in early September. It's big, folks. Seventeen thousand square feet across three tremendous floors. You've got a community program room with the best audiovisual capabilities, two fantastic meeting rooms, a tremendous children’s area, a space for teens, reading stairs - stairs, can you believe it? - 12 public computers, including 6 laptops, and WiFi that's just tremendous.

Originally built in 1990 - a good year, a tremendous year - the former North Oak Branch was razed in late 2021. This tremendous project is part of MCPL’s Capital Improvement Plan, and it's happening because voters passed Proposition L in 2016. Sapp Design Architects and Helix Architecture Design are doing tremendous design work, and JE Dunn is managing construction - they're doing a fantastic job.

And here's the best part: the increased funding - because we like to fund things - it's not just for bricks and mortar. MCPL is expanding hours, enhancing services, and buying more materials. It's tremendous what they're doing for the community. Get all the tremendous details about the library’s construction projects at mymcpl.org/Community.

So, folks, get ready for a tremendous celebration. This is not just a grand opening; it's a celebration of winning, of knowledge, and of making libraries great again! 📚
