It was only 6 years when Chicken and Pickle introduced PickleBall in NKC. Now it is coming to Gladstone. Because what this town really needed was more places to smack a plastic ball around, Gladstone officials will be cutting a ceremonial ribbon for the brand-new pickleball courts at 2099 NE 72nd St. on Wednesday, July 16, at 10 a.m. sharp—because nothing says civic progress like a paddle sport for retirees and suburban dads in visors.
Mayor Les Smith and the city council will be on hand to bask in the glory of their greatest athletic contribution yet. Pickleball, that Frankenstein’s monster of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, is allegedly for all ages and skill levels—which is great, because apparently everyone in Gladstone is now a pickleball pro.
After the ribbon is snipped, stick around for some thrilling demonstrations and unsolicited advice from overly enthusiastic locals who take this game way too seriously. Now we just hope the neighbors don't complain too much from the noise.
